Next Link Communications is an industry-leading provider of scalable, cost-effective voice over internet protocol (VoIP) solutions. We serve companies across industry, including in the medical, hospitality, security, and construction markets.
With over two decades of experience, Next Link is one of the premier vendors for high-quality VoIP systems. The following article outlines what VoIP systems are, their benefits, and why Next Link is the preferred supplier of VoIP solutions for many businesses.
What Are VoIP Phone Systems?
Voice over internet protocol—also known as VoIP—systems allow for wireless phone calls made over the Internet rather than through a wired system and public switched telephone network (PSTN). These systems take the information from your end of the line and break it into smaller data packets. These individual data packets are then transmitted through various routes and reassembled into coherent data once they reach the other end of the line.
At Next Link, we offer VoIP phone systems in three basic packages:
- On-premise. Hardware and software for the VoIP network are housed onsite within the customer’s facilities
- The service provider (e.g., Next Link) manages all hardware and software components
- Combines features from the options above
Regarding physical components, we offer VoIP systems with three wiring options:
- Cat 5e. This wiring option is the preferred choice for smaller businesses with networks that handle less rigorous data workloads and light Internet traffic. Cat 5e wiring supports speeds up to 1 gigabit (1000 Mbps) and reduces signal interference from other cables.
- Cat 6. Cat 6 wiring is suitable for networks that carry higher data loads and experience heavy Internet usage. Although Cat 6 is slightly more expensive than Cat 5e, it is also more reliable and offers faster speeds (up to 10 gigabits per second), greater temperature resistance, and better protection from interfering signals.
- Fiber optic cable. Unlike Cat 5e and Cat 6 wires, which are copper-based, fiber optic cables are comprised of filaments of silica glass. These cables are similarly capable of attaining up to 10 gigabit speeds while taking up less space and offering greater immunity to electromagnetic signal interference than their copper counterparts. They also weigh less than copper cables and can run much longer distances.
Benefits of VoIP Phone Systems
VoIP phone systems offer businesses several key benefits, such as:
- No additional infrastructure requirements. Since VoIP systems use existing Internet connections, their integration and operation do not require the costly establishment of a separate infrastructure.
- Streamlined payment processes. There is no separate phone bill for VoIP systems as everything is done over the Internet.
- Ease of integration. VoIP allows for the seamless integration of telephone services into the same platform that contains other important files, such as emails, videos, texts, and file transfers.
- Multiple location usage. With VoIP, your phone number follows you from device to device. This characteristic allows you to call from different devices—e.g., desk phone, smartphone, tablet, or PC—at different locations.
- Cost-effectiveness. The relative cost-effectiveness of VoIP systems makes them ideal for small businesses, startups, contractors, and entrepreneurs that may be operating within a tight budget. At the same time, they are also an excellent cost-saving option for larger businesses with existing networks.
As outlined above, VoIP systems offer businesses numerous advantages. However, experiencing these advantages requires partnering with an expert service provider. That’s why so many businesses choose to partner with Next Link Communications.
